FREE 5-MINUTE NERVOUS SYSTEM RESET
You do not have to lose yourself to feel deeply
When your emotions feel overwhelming, it can be easy to overthink, over-give, shut down, people-please, or reach for reassurance before you know what you truly need.
When Your Feelings Live in Your Body is a gentle, body-based check-in to help you pause, name what you feel, and respond from self-trust rather than reaction.
Your reaction may not be the whole story.
Maybe you replay conversations long after they end.
Maybe a delayed text makes your body tense.
Maybe you say yes when you mean no, over-explain what you feel, or become so focused on another person’s needs that you cannot hear your own.
These patterns do not mean you are “too much,” broken, or incapable of healthy love.
Sometimes they are signs that there is an emotion beneath the reaction, an emotion your body may have learned to carry quietly, protectively, or alone.
This guide is for you if you often:
Feel anxious, urgent, or unsettled in close relationships
Struggle to identify what you feel until you are already overwhelmed
Over-give, over-function, or people-please to preserve connection
Shut down, go numb, or lose your words when emotions get intense
Know you are self-abandoning but do not know how to stop
Want deeper intimacy without disappearing inside the relationship
You do not need to become less sensitive, less loving, or less emotionally deep. You need a way to stay with yourself while emotion rises.
Your body may be holding what your words have not had space to say.
Your body remembers what you have felt, even the emotions you were taught to silence, minimize, explain away, or carry alone.
When feelings go unexpressed, they do not simply disappear. They can show up through relationship anxiety, blurred boundaries, conflict, emotional shutdown, people-pleasing, urgency, or the stories you tell yourself about what connection means.
Somatic awareness offers a different starting point: not “What is wrong with me?” but “What is happening within me right now?”
This guide was created to help you begin answering that question with curiosity, compassion, and honesty.
Inside the free check-in
In a few gentle minutes, you will begin practicing a different response to emotional activation: pause, notice, name, and choose what you need before you act from fear or self-abandonment.
-
Learn how to pause long enough to recognize physical signals such as tightness, numbness, restlessness, heaviness, heat, or urgency.
-
Explore the emotion that may be underneath overthinking, withdrawing, explaining, pursuing, pleasing, or trying to control the outcome.
-
Create space between what you feel, the meaning your mind makes of it, and the action you feel pressured to take.
-
Use reflective prompts to identify a more grounded next step, one that honors connection without costing you yourself.
-
Begin developing the emotional fluency that supports clearer boundaries, more honest communication, and safer intimacy.
No experience with somatic work is needed. This is an accessible place to begin, even if you have never been taught how to identify what you feel in your body.
Created for people learning to love without disappearing.
This guide was created by Christine Vargo, founder of The Real Poetic Paradox. Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Gestalt Therapist, and Daring Way™ Trained Facilitator trained in trauma-informed and somatic approaches to healing and relationships.
Christine’s work supports people who want to understand themselves more deeply, relate with greater emotional honesty, and build connection without self-abandonment. Her approach brings together relational insight, somatic awareness, compassion, and grounded self-reflection.
The goal is not to make you less emotional. The goal is to help you become more fluent in what your emotions, body, and relationships may be asking for.
You do not have to have the right words yet
-
No. This guide is designed to be a gentle and accessible starting point. You do not need prior knowledge of body-based practices or emotional vocabulary to use it.
-
That is a common place to begin. The purpose of this check-in is not to force an answer; it is to create space to notice what may be present beneath the surface.
-
No. The practice can support awareness in romantic relationships, friendships, family dynamics, work relationships, and your relationship with yourself. However, it may feel especially relevant if closeness tends to bring up anxiety, over-giving, or the fear of being left.
-
This is an educational self-reflection resource and is not a replacement for individualized medical, mental-health, or crisis support.
Begin with five minutes of coming back to yourself.
You do not need to have everything figured out before you start. You only need a moment of honest attention.
